an international hit, going to #3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, #4 on the U.S. Cash Box chart, #5 in the U.K., and #3 in Ireland. The lineup for the group has changed many times, but for this record, although there have been disputes, the members were Barbara Alston, Mary Thomas, Dolores "LaLa" Brooks, Dolores "Dee Dee" Kenniebrew, and Patricia
"Patsy" Wright. “That's solid gold coming out of that speaker,” producer Phil Spector told Sonny Bono, when they listened to the final playback of "Da Doo Ron Ron.” (Sonny
worked for Spector in the early 1960s and Cher did some backup singing.) This was Spector’s first real “Wall of Sound” production, recorded in Gold Star Studios in L.A. He packed The Crystals and all the other musicians into a 19’x24’ room and spent hours placing microphones -- especially for drummer Hal Blaine. Spector recorded in mono, tailoring the sound to car radios. Vocals were recorded in an echo chamber located behind
the control room at Gold Star.
Here are the lyrics: "I met him on a Monday and my heart stood still Da doo ron ron ron, da
doo ron ron Some boy told me that his name was Bill Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron
Yes, my heart stood still Yes, his name was Bill And when he walked me home Da doo ron
ron ron, da doo ron ron He knew what he was doin' when he caught my eye Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron He looked so quiet but my, oh, my Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron
Yes, he caught my eye Yes, but my, oh, my And when he walked me home Da doo ron ron
ron, da doo ron ron Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron
Picked me up at seven and he looked so fine Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron Someday
soon I'm gonna make him mine Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron Yes, he looked so fine Yes, I'll make him mine And when he walked me home Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron
Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron Da doo ron ron ron, da doo ron ron'
